EAST DUNDEE – Republican Allen Skillicorn wants voters in the 66th House District that Democrat opponent Nancy Zettler is using the typical, worn out campaign tactic of spreading false information via mailers.
But instead of shrugging it all off, the East Dundee village trustee is working to get the truth out – especially in a campaign season when women's issues are so volatile.
One side of the flyer sent out by Zettler's campaign says in bold letters that "Extreme Allen Skillicorn won't stand up for women …" and goes on to list several issues that Zettler would have women believe Skillicorn holds.
The only problem is those points are misleading and in two cases, unsubstantiated – one in which he's accused of opposing funding for breast cancer screenings and domestic violence centers, and another in which he's accused of being opposed to funding evidence kits for rape victims.
"I'm fully pro-life," Skillicorn told Illinois Review, "and as a village trustee and precinct committeeman, I've never voted legislation involving rape kits, breast cancer screenings nor domestic violence shelters.
"However," Skillicorn said, "my wife and I do financially support a home for human trafficking victims."
The race in the 66th House District to fill retiring State Rep. Mike Tryon's Republican seat is close, but Skillicorn has earned the endorsement of all three major local editorial boards.
