WASHINGTON DC – Former Illinois Republican 2016 Primary Senate candidate James Marter has welcomed Illinois Review readers to follow him on Facebook during the Trump Inauguration.
Marter met up with a group of Republicans from Kendall County, Illinois
We'll update as Marter, who lost the 2016 GOP primary to Mark Kirk before Kirk lost the 2016 General Election, posts on his personal Facebook page. He began Thursday before noon:
To bad Marter did not win the primary against Kirk. This tells how screwed up the Illinois GOP is… Kirk had no chance of winning the general election and Kirk, for the sake of the party, should have stepped down. Now Kirk is Persona Non-Grata and we lost the Senate seat to a Durbin puppet. The Illinois State GOP needs to get smart and stop being stupid.
Support true Republicans that can win, develop people that can win.
“Stupid IS as stupid DOES,” best describes the recent history of the Illinois State GOP.
And also remember; Marter was a last-minute jump-in candidate, with NO money, NO name recognition, NO prior elected service record, and the gullible members of the TEA Parties jumped on his band-wagon without checking any of these credentials to learn HE DIDN”T HAVE A CHANCE.
(I need to run for President next time, so I can advertise myself as “Former Presidential Candidate….”)
I hope Jim will meet many congressmen, today. If Congressman Hultgren doesn’t run for re-election, in 2018 or ’20, I hope Jim will run for that seat.
Then Marter better begin preparations NOW, not wait ’till two months before the Primary to have a plan.
Why don’t you hope he starts with an office he can win instead of hoping he runs for high office with no name recognition, fails spectacularly, runs for the next lower office, fails again and keeps repeating the cycle until he looks like someone running just to see his name on the ballot? Why don’t you hope he runs for city council or local park district?
I believe that we will all be hearing and seeing a great deal of James Marter in the future. And, that will be “a good thing” for the state of Illinois and it’s residents. I also believe that a humbling lesson was learned by the Illinois GOP leadership when they made an unwise decision to back “established” but politically flawed incumbent Mark Kirk in the GOP primary. I believe Mark Kirk is a good man but he failed to know when to dance off of the stage. The Illinois GOP leadership should have used the stage hook to “tactfully” and “tenderly” yank him off the stage when they failed to hear the audience clapping anymore.
James Marter isn’t going away and he will be back in the next election. I, for one, look forward to that prospect.
Kirk never should have “danced ONTO the stage” to begin with. He’s just another Lake County liberal RINO, as was his former boss and mentor, John Porter.
One of the last public addresses Kirk made when he stated he just wanted to be a voice for conciliation with the Democrats said it all; he wasn’t interested in being the voice of Illinois Republicans in the Senate.
You’re correct. I’ll tell him that you said that.
I hope you’ll hope for that.
