PONTIAC – Congressman Adam Kinzinger (IL-18) is likely to be challenged by Kendall County GOP Chairman James Marter in the March 2018 primary.

Conservative Republicans in the district have been growing more and more discontented with the four-term U.S. House member as they see him voting more and more with the moderate wing of the party and spending more time with D.C. insiders on CNN and MSNBC than in his home district, Marter told Illinois Review Sunday afternoon.

Marter, who primary challenged U.S. Senator Mark Kirk in 2016, announced he is forming an exploratory committee to run for the 16th CD with the help of John McGlasson, the party's State Central Committeeman for the 16th CD.

“I am supporting James Marter, a true conservative, because he is a family man, business owner, proponent of the 2nd amendment, and pro-life," McGlasson said in Monday's announcement. "Jim is a man of integrity and principle; he is a champion of fiscal responsibility, government transparency and justice with integrity. He is the type of candidate that the founders envisioned, a solid member of his community, and not a career politician, so therefore, I am pleased to be the Chairman of the Exploratory Campaign Committee to Elect James Marter for Congress.”
