Dreamer legislation

WASHINGTON, DC – FWD.us President Todd Schulte issued the following statement today on reports of new bipartisan legislation that creates an earned pathway to citizenship for Dreamers:

“We are very encouraged to see reports that Rep. Will Hurd (R-TX) and Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-CA) are working together across party lines on legislation to allow Dreamers to stay permanently in the only country they know as home while enhancing border security. This good-faith bipartisan effort and momentum is absolutely critical, and we want to thank the two of them and all those working with them on both sides of the aisle. It also will provide much-needed assurance to hundreds of thousands of Dreamers and their families who are anxiously awaiting the certainty they desperately deserve. After a decade of substantial border security investments that have helped dramatically reduce border apprehensions to the lowest levels in modern history, this bill would build on that progress by deploying enhanced resources and technology to further these efforts.”

January is our last chance to get this done before huge numbers of Dreamers lose their ability to live, work, and contribute to the only country they know as home. 85% of Americans and 79% of Republicans want Congress to protect Dreamers. We urge every single member of Congress to demand a vote on bipartisan legislation to protect Dreamers before January 19th.”
