SPRINGFIELD – Every election cycle, Illinois' capital city news outlets hold debates before the Democrat and Republican gubernatorial primaries. WMAY radio joins with the State Journal Register to ask questions and allow voters statewide to hear the candidates' responses.

The Democrat debate between the party's five primary gubernatorial candidates will be held in February. But Republican primary voters aren't likely to hear a debate between Republican incumbent Governor Bruce Rauner and his conservative challenger State Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton).

WMAY says the governor's campaign said thanks, but no thanks, to their offer.

  1. Bruce Rauner is unelectable and needs to do the honorable thing and withdraw from the GOP Primary race…or suffer the humiliation of being thrown out of office by his fellow and former Republican voters in the GOP Pimary.

  2. Hey Stevie –
Didn’t Schaumburg Township GOP get a big chunk of Rauner funds? Does that have ANYTHING to do with your obnoxious behavior on IR? I’m thinking you’re getting something outta that and that’s why you are so upfront with your support for Rauner.

  3. Where did he write that Jeanne Ives could win? Where?
All I see is the rather obvious statement that Rauner can’t win.
Every one of your posts since you started trolling here has been incomprehensible.

  4. Not at all. I just understand the Illinois electoral landscape and I want Republicans to win. What’s obnoxious is the blind Faith and anger Ives generates when she has poor chances statewide. I’m upfront with my support for Rauner because he won, and has helped others win. Literally Ives is running because of HB 40, and she lies while talking about the honor code. Sorry I not sorry

  5. Maybe you could explain why we had lower taxes, were not a sanctuary state, had not bailed out Chicago’s schools, and were not funding taxpayer abortions when Pat Quinn left office. That would be great. I think you have a flimsy grasp of the issues, unfortunately.

  6. “Maybe you could explain why we had lower taxes.”
They only went down because Rauner won. And they only went up because a dozen Republicans caved and voted for it.
    “were not a sanctuary state”
Still not, because that’s not what the Trust act is, ask the chiefs of police
“had not bailed out Chicago’s schools”
Rauner fought that bill until we got a school choice credit, mandate relief and made CPS go through normal pension procedures.
“and were not funding taxpayer abortions when Pat Quinn left office.”
We did, it was for rape, incest, mother’s health and medical need. At the end of the day, regardless of the moral position, the bill comes at no cost to taxpayers. And it came up because Democrats have been trying to corner Rauner, and the contact barrage of misinformation from Ives only helps them.
“I think you have a flimsy grasp of the issues, unfortunately.”
Counter argument, I do and you don’t. And since you seem to be defending Quinn, that all makes sense.

  7. Stevie – You don’t seem to understand. We don’t unconditionally want Republicans to win.
Certainly if they have no Constitutional ideals or conservative ideas – as is the case with political huckster, Bruce Rauner.
    We are Independent conservatives.
After some point of betrayal – party affiliation simply doesn’t matter anymore.

  8. Rauner looks weak by not debating Jeannie Ives. Many are saying he is chicken.
It’s an unusual election cycle as the only support for Rauner seems to be from his political hires, appointees, and GOP clubs who received money from him. The grass roots and the republican base is growing daily for Ives as the “establishment GOP” is trying to hold on.
Whatever happens it appears Bruce Rauner will lose along with every associated with him. It’s time to rebuild the Illinois Republican Party.

  9. I’m glad you’re a real grammar nazi. I will try to make this simple for the simple minded Jeanne supporters here. JEANNE CAN’T WIN. Not in the primary, not in the general election. Detractors say “Rauner Can’t win… bla Bla Bla.” Well, I will state a few salient facts…
Fact 1. Rauner won the last election.
Fact 2. Rauner is a Moderate (Like most of IL)
Fact 3. Rauner has lots of Campaign money
Fact 4. Rauner is an incumbent Governor
Fact 4. Rauner has a chance to win… Jeanne has NO CHANCE to win.
Let’s make it clear, Jeanne is not our best, She a paid Dan Profit creation. I let you in on a little secret, more than half of the people in the 42nd district where I live, think Jeanne is a loud mouth crazy. This is a fact.
It should be noted that Jeanne, in her first state rep election won less than 36% of the Republican vote. The majority of Republicans rejected Jeanne. This is a Fact.
I contend, supporting Jeanne only enriches Dan Profit and grows his organization. An organization that cares little for the Republican Cause only his own. Dan Profit knows Jeanne has no chance in hell of winning so the only gain in this Jeanne band wangon, is money and power for Dan and his cavalcade of puppets.
So summing up, Jeanne is poor candidate.

  10. I’m glad you’re a real grammar nazi. I will try to make this simple for the simple minded Jeanne supporters here. JEANNE CAN’T WIN.
Again, nobody here makes the claim that Jeanne Ives can win. Nobody. You cannot be serious. You cannot be this dense.
The fact is that people just want Rauner to lose. Ives would be the preferred victor but anybody but Rauner is better than the present situation.
Illinois cannot begin to heal itself until Rauner is gone. Fact.

  11. they only went up because a dozen Republicans caved and voted for it.
A dozen Republicans under Rauner’s control who were elected with his money. You can’t be this naïve.
Still not, because that’s not what the Trust act is
Ok, so you are a Democrat. Enough said.
Rauner fought that bill until we got a school choice credit
A dinky school choice credit for a couple of years until the fat slob Pritzker takes over. Meanwhile the bailout is permanent. Wow, what a great fight he put up. You cannot be serious.
And it came up because Democrats have been trying to corner Rauner
And Not In Charge Rauner is too weak of a candidate to veto a bill he made promises to veto.
And since you seem to be defending Quinn
Who is defending Quinn? Just making the obvious observation that we have higher taxes under Rauner than Quinn, are a sanctuary state now and not under Quinn, had not bailed out Chicago Public Schools under Quinn, and were not funding taxpayer abortions under Quinn is not a defense of Quinn. It simply points out that Rauner is a worse candidate for conservatives than Quinn ever was.
Don’t take my word about Not In Charge Rauner being a worse governor than Quinn. National Review named Rauner the worst Republican governor in America.

  12. You have two item fours (which you incorrectly label “facts”) only one of which is an actual fact. Item 2 is not a fact. Item 3 is not a fact when you compare Not In Charge with his likely opponent. Also your “crazy” opinion is just that, a crazy opinion, not a fact.
    Thanks for trolling.
