CHICAGO – In a fundraising email last week, Illinois' junior US Senator Tammy Duckworth distributed photos of her and her 4 year old daughter at Chicago's Gay Pride Parade.
"I even brought my 4-year-old daughter, Abigail, who had a blast. I'm so glad I got the chance to show her the importance of being proud of who you are — and that diversity of all kinds is what makes our country great," Duckworth's email said.
Then in the email Duckworth, a veteran pilot that lost her legs in a helicopter crash, threw in a hat tip to the gun control activists that were at the parade.
"But Pride Month should also serve as a reminder of how much further we have to go before all Americans can access true equality," she wrote, "We can't forget that people still face being fired or losing their housing because of their identity. And as activists from Moms Demand Action reminded us, far too many LGBTQ+ folks live in fear of violence."
And while Duckworth celebrated the Supreme Court decision that resulted in no citizenship question on the 2020 Census, saying "The administration shouldn't have even tried to add this question …"
