CHICAGO – A bitter fight between 3rd Congressional District Democrats may have contributed to a major loss for Illinois conservatives in the 2018 GOP primary – and it appears now that the 3rd CD race could very well be a problem in the 2020 GOP primary, too.
Pro-lifers in the 3rd CD walked and promoted the re-election of Democrat incumbent Dan Lipinski, and after the primary, they boasted thousands of Republicans pulled Democrat primary ballots to boost Lipinski above his more liberal challenger Marie Newman. Lipinski won the 2018 Democrat primary by a narrow margin.
This time, Newman is getting the backing of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and the other members of "The Squad" over Lipinski – who, they say is not progressive enough – because Lipinski is reportedly the last pro-life Democrat in Congress.
It remains to be seen how the Illinois pro-life movement will respond to Lipinski's call for assistance again – and if Republicans will choose to pull Democrat primary ballots when what many consider "the most pro-life president ever" will be on the GOP primary ballot in March 2020.
