CRYSTAL LAKE – Instead of challenging him in the 14th CD, State Rep. Allen Skillicorn announced Wednesday he's endorsing Jim Oberweis in the 2020 IL GOP Primary. The winner of the March 2020 primary will challenge Democrat newbie Lauren Underwood in the General Election.
“It is no secret that one of the issues I am most passionate about is taxes,” Skillicorn said. “From Day One in the State Legislature, I have been a consistent opponent to tax increases. The one member in the State Senate with a similar record of opposition to taxes is Jim Oberweis. Lauren Underwood will do nothing but vote for tax increases. Jim Oberweis will stand up for taxpayers.”
Skillicorn said Oberweis also will be an advocate for strong border security.
“The open border policies being pushed by team Nancy Pelosi/Lauren Underwood are putting our nation at risk,” Skillicorn said. “I have every confidence that Jim Oberweis will be the leader we need on border security.”
Sen. Oberweis said he is honored to have Skillicorn’s support.
“I am honored and humbled to have a conservative champion like Allen Skillicorn supporting me for Congress,” Oberweis said. “It means a great deal to me to have his support because Allen has become a strong voice for conservative ideas and conservative values. His support speaks volumes. It sends a message that I am the conservative leader voters can trust and I am the conservative who can beat the Pelosi/Underwood team.

Interesting, and Skillicorn referred to Oberweis as an establishment member during his IL-14 thinking about running for Congress? And the same day, he issued a statement about a joint appearance with IL-06 candidate Jeanne Ives tomorrow night? And Skillicorn is facing a credible primary challenge for his renomination in March.
Skillicorn comes across as someone taking his current constituents’ votes for granted, but I’m guessing it will be James Marter’s people and his allies at Illinois Conservative Union who will be most disappointed in Skillicorn’s decision.
But with Ted Gradel, Catalina Lauf, Sue Rezin, and even Danny Malouf and Anthony Catella to consider for IL-14, Republican primary voters have plenty of candidates to choose from.
I want someone who will back Trump 100%. The man deserves someone to have his back, right or wrong. All these Republicans who are not going to run again are pathetic and traitors to the ideals of America. I want a candidate that pledges fidelity to Trump.
Sadly Jim will not do that. He is much too sensitive which is sad. Sometimes a man has to be a man and most of the GOP is filled with limp wristed Paul Ryan types.
Sometimes a man has to be a man, LOL are you kidding me? And you we all in for Kyle Mc Carter and his greatest strength was taking LOTS-O -MONEY from Rauner, BUT you didn’t want to talk about that!!
I don’t recall ever hearing of a Kyle McCarter. And my point is, Trump is a man, a leader, sometimes he says things that upset people, well some leaders are like that, Patton was like that too.
This is like a 2008 flashback. Jim doesn’t have a prayer.
