TINLEY PARK – Republican candidates Jimmy Tillman and Lynn Franco, along with Philanise White and John Wassenaar, are competing for the GOP nomination in the 1st Congressional District. The 1st CD has been long held by Democrat Bobby Rush, who himself is facing four primary opponents in March 2020.

Chicagoans Tillman and Franco participated in an IL GOP candidates forum last Thursday night, hosted by the Bremen Township GOP and Will County Republicans.

Tillman emphasized the need for the USMCA to be enforced, and Franco emphasized the need for trade training and raising the standards of education in the black community.

The 1st CD GOP candidates were asked the following questions:

QUESTION: Could you tell us your qualifications to be Congressman for the 1st CD and why you would want to represent the district in Congress?

QUESTION: How could you serve the people of the 1st CD better than Congressman Rush has? What specifically do you believe the federal government should be doing that they are not currently doing in the district?

QUESTION: Would you be voting to impeach President Trump if you were in office now?  Why or why not?

QUESTION: If elected, would you want to be a part of the House GOP’s Freedom Caucus?  Why or why not?

Tillman and Franco's responses are within the unedited audio here:
