llinois' tax climate isn't the worst in the nation, but it's likely to change after the Democrat majority passes more tax hikes in 2021.

In its 2021 evaluation, the Tax Foundation gives Illinois an overall tax climate rating of 36 – but that's before the tax hike threats lawmakers are making before the upcoming legislature session.

Illinois ranks third from the lowest – #48 – in the Foundation's Property Tax rank.

The Tax Foundation’s State Business Tax Climate Index enables business leaders, government policymakers, and taxpayers to gauge how their states’ tax systems compare. While there are many ways to show how much is collected in taxes by state governments, the Index is designed to show how well states structure their tax systems and provides a road map for improvement.
