Dagenhart: Why Darren Bailey is my pick for governor in 2022

At least two Illinois Republicans have officially announced their intentions to challenge Democrat incumbent Governor JB Pritzker in 2022. Conservatives are lining up behind their favorites. From an op-ed by Natalia Dagenhart about her pick in the 2022 GOP gubernatorial primary – state Senator Darren Bailey: 

Darren Bailey will lower both income and property taxes. At the event, he noted that Illinois has a spending problem that has to be solved. He offered to freeze spending without tax increases and underlined that we need honesty in our state. Bailey firmly believes in fiscal responsibility and knows that every penny matters. Raising taxes hurts hardworking Illinois families and is not a solution for a state with one of the highest tax burdens in the entire nation. In the state legislature, Darren has fought against tax hikes and reckless spending and advocated for more business-friendly policies.

Also, Darren believes that we need to reopen the Illinois’ economy and create more jobs. We also have to reopen schools! A complete return to normalcy is a top priority for Darren. This pandemic hit many people in our state very hard, and it’s extremely important for the government to take reasonable measures that don’t hurt people but support them. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Darren led the charge against sweeping executive orders that shuttered Illinois businesses, collapsed the economy, and deprived hardworking Illinoisans of their livelihoods. As Governor, Darren Bailey will work to fully reopen the economy and our schools, attract new business, and fuel job creation in Illinois.

Darren also supports the Second Amendment and advocates for the constitutional right to bear arms. In the Illinois State Senate, Darren voted against sweeping gun control legislation. Darren is an advocate on behalf of gun owners in Illinois and believes that education is crucial for those opposed to gun rights.
