CHICAGO – Friday, Governor JB Pritzker signed into law the Democrat super-majority's dream redistricting plan – a map that was drawn at the hands of Democrat operatives, despite Pritzker saying two years ago he was for a fairer process.
“Yes, I will pledge to veto," Pritzker said in response to a reporter's query during a debate with then-Governor Bruce Raurner."We should amend the constitution to create an independent commission to draw legislative maps, but in the meantime, I would urge Democrats and Republicans to agree to an independent commission to handle creating a new legislative map. That designated body should reflect the gender, racial, and geographic diversity of the state and look to preserve the Voting Rights Act decisions to ensure racial and language minorities are fully represented in the electoral process.”
But Friday, he did just the opposite by agreeing with the Democrat plan and signing their plan favoring more Democrat-leaning districts. Pritzker said the map reflected a need to increase diversity.
“Illinois’ strength is in our diversity, and these maps help to ensure that communities that have been left out and left behind have fair representation in our government,” said Governor JB Pritzker. “These district boundaries align with both the federal and state Voting Rights Acts, which help to ensure our diverse communities have electoral power and fair representation.”
Republican legislators are planning a press conference in response Friday afternoon.
