Illinois Review heard from GOP gubernatorial primary candidate state Senator Darren Bailey, who had strong statements on the plan:

I continue to stand against vaccine passports. Unfortunately, the Pritzker Administration and the political elites support and continue to push vaccine passports because they want to control people. They want to force a six-year-old to show their papers before they can enjoy a Happy Meal inside of a Mcdonald's," Bailey said.

Bailey went on to question whether the program leads to privacy rights questions.

"This line of thinking is dangerous and an absolute invasion of privacy. No business should be forced to push Pritzker's extreme anti-American agenda, and no citizen of a free nation should have to carry a card or download an app that shares their personal health decisions so they can buy groceries, attend their child's sporting event, or have a night out with their family or friends," Bailey said. Instead, how COVID is handled should be left to local officials. Bailey said he is fighting for working families and personal liberties.

"From the beginning of this pandemic, I have encouraged a more local and targeted approach to combat COVID, while standing up for everyone's rights in the state of Illinois. As the Pritzker administration worked to keep schools, businesses, and churches closed, I stood up for Illinoisans. I am still standing, and I will never back down in this fight for working families and personal liberties," he said.

More comments will be published as they come into Illinois Review.
