By Randy Rossi -

Sadly, liberals and the “Fake News” have successfully misled the American people about the danger of “assault rifles” while hiding the real causes of deaths in America. The FBI’s Homicide report above tells you all you need to know. The total number of Americans killed by rifles of all kinds including dishonestly labeled “assault rifles” in 2020 was 454 out of a population of 330 million Americans or 0.0001% of Americans. Of course every homicide is a tragedy, but let’s compare that number to the number of Americans killed by knives in 2020 which was 1,732. Knives killed 3.8 times more Americans than rifles of all kinds! Using the logic of liberals and the “Fake News”, we should definitely outlaw all knives! We should also outlaw fists and feet because they killed  657 Americans or 44.7% more Americans than all rifles do!

Let’s take a moment to put this focus on “assault rifles” in perspective. Compare how much time Democrats and the “Fake News” focus on “assault rifle” homicides with the number of Americans who died last year from opioid overdoses. Last year over 100,306 Americans died from opioid overdoses which is 220 times more Americans than were killed by “assault rifles”! Opioid deaths are the single highest cause of death in people aged 18-45! Most of those deaths were from fentanyl which is made in China and illegally shipped across our southern borders by the same drug cartels that were paid to ship over 2 million illegal aliens across our southern borders in 2021! Shouldn’t that bother rational Americans far more than 454 Americans that were killed by rifles?

The reason I say that the libs and “Fake News” are dishonestly labeling these rifles as “assault rifles” is because real military assault rifles are capable of being put into automatic mode turning them into “machine guns”. Machine guns were tightly regulated since the 1930s and made totally illegal in 1986. The dishonestly labeled “assault rifles” are really semi-automatic rifles that require pulling the trigger every time to fire a shot and have been used for hunting for decades.

Actually, guns are far less dangerous than cars are! There are over 400 million legally owned guns in the US and 20 million dishonestly labeled “assault rifles” in the US. While only 454 Americans died from those “assault rifles” in 2020, 38,824 Americans died from car accidents last year. That means that cars are 85 times more dangerous than “assault rifles” are! Since most Americans killed by guns are killed by pistols, let’s look at the total number of Americans killed by guns of all types vs car accidents. In 2020, 13,620 Americans were killed by all the legal guns in America which total over 400 million. That means the odds of dying from a gun are 0.003%. There are 276 million cars in America according to Statista and in 2020 38,824 Americans died in car accidents in 2020. That means the odds of dying in a car accident per car are 0.014% which is 4.5 times higher than dying from a gun!

Our Founding Fathers gave us the 2nd Amendment to protect our freedom. As George Washington said, “A free people should be an armed people”. The good news is that guns are not only critical for freedom, self-defense, and hunting; they are much safer than cars, and “assault rifles” are safer than knives, hammers, and fists and feet based on hard data! Just like none of us would outlaw knives, hammers, and fists and feet; no rational person should take away our guns and our 2nd Amendment!!
