Last Saturday, pro-life supporters gathered at the federal plaza in Chicago for a rally and a march. After a number of speakers, about 2000 people marched north on Dearborn then back south on Michigan Avenue. The downtown streets were filled with people attending the Taste of Chicago in Grant Park.

The event focused on pro-life advocacy in the wake of the recent United States Supreme Court’s Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision. The decision basically overturned the 1972 court decision of Roe Vs Wade putting the decision of abortion back to the states.
The pro-life marchers were met with a about 200 counter protesters who attempted to disrupt the event. They held a large banner saying “We Will Not Go Back.” They also had many professional printed signs saying “Abolish The Supreme Court.”  The two groups were separated by about 50 Chicago Police Officers mostly on bikes.  They reported no arrests were made but it did get contentious at times.
You can expect the battle of abortion to continue to heat up.  At this point it seems like more people understand that life begins at conception with abortion or termination a human life is not healthcare. While most feel the economy is the number one issue with the upcoming elections, the discussion of life will be a hot button issue. The mid term elections are Tuesday November 8, 2022.
