In one of the first nationwide hypothetical polls for the 2028 Democratic presidential primary, Illinois Governor and billionaire JB Pritzker ranks at the bottom, receiving the lowest level of support from minority voters as prominent Democrats begin preparing for potential campaigns.
On Friday, the well-regarded Emerson College Polling released new results showing former U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg leading the Democratic field with 16 percent support. Former Vice President Kamala Harris follows at 13 percent, with California Governor Gavin Newsom close behind at 12 percent.
The poll also shows Buttigieg receiving no support among Black voters and just 10 percent among Hispanic voters. Harris leads with 30 percent support among Black voters and 11 percent among Hispanics. Newsom, meanwhile, garners 21 percent support from Hispanic voters but only 9 percent from Black voters.
JB Pritzker, billionaire heir to the Hyatt Hotel fortune who invested over $350 million of his own money in two gubernatorial campaigns, also harbors presidential ambitions. However, recent polls indicate he remains largely unpopular among Democratic voters nationwide.
Among a field of twelve potential candidates, polling shows Pritzker with the lowest support – just 2 percent overall, including 1 percent among Black voters and zero among Hispanics.
As governor, Pritzker has actively supported legislation and policies benefiting undocumented immigrants. For instance, in 2019, he banned private detention centers for migrants. In 2020, he launched healthcare services for undocumented immigrants, with funding totaling over $1.6 billion through 2025. Then, in 2023, he committed $160 million to provide job assistance and housing for this population.
At a recent Democratic dinner in New Hampshire, Pritzker delivered a shocking speech in The Granite State, where he called for violence against the Trump agenda, saying “It’s time to fight, everywhere, all at once.” He also attacked his own party for blaming far-left progressive policies for November’s election losses.
“Do-nothing Democrats want to blame our losses on our defense of Black people and trans kids and immigrants — instead of their own lack of guts and gumption,” Pritzker said during a Democratic dinner in New Hampshire.
The Democratic Party remains in chaos following massive election losses last November, and Pritzker’s attack on his fellow Democrats certainly doesn’t help.
The party’s support – including Pritzker’s – for transgenders, males playing in female sports and policies that welcome violent and dangerous illegal immigrants into the U.S. did not bode well with the public this last election.
Recent polls show that 66 percent of Americans oppose biological males playing in women’s sports. 56 percent of Americans believe that health care professionals should not provide gender transition care to minors.
The Illinois governor continues to tease a possible presidential run, and he’s making the rounds on national television and giving high profile speeches in battleground states. He remains a close friend and ally of the Clintons.
