We extend our gratitude to Next News Network for its dedicated coverage of the recent delegate scandal that has shaken the Illinois Republican Party (ILGOP). Gary Franchi, the network’s founder, has been instrumental in bringing this story to light to his broad audience, highlighting the issues within the party’s leadership that demand urgent attention.

Franchi’s Next News Network, known for its in-depth reporting and large conservative following, has been pivotal in exposing the misconduct of Mark Shaw, Vice Chairman of the ILGOP to additional millions of viewers. Shaw is accused of misrepresenting himself as a delegate during the recent state convention. This serious breach of party rules has sparked widespread outrage and calls for his resignation.

Disgraced IL GOP Vice Chairman Mark Shaw during the state convention in May.

In a video report, Franchi detailed the sequence of events leading to the scandal. Shaw was seen wearing an official delegate badge at the state convention, despite not being appointed as a delegate. This blatant violation of party rules was compounded by Shaw’s refusal to withdraw from running for national committeeman after losing multiple rounds of voting. Instead of stepping down, Shaw threatened a fellow party member, further tarnishing his reputation.

The fallout from Shaw’s actions was swift. State Senator Jason Plummer and other influential party leaders demanded Shaw’s removal. Plummer expressed his disappointment on Facebook, stating, “I am very disappointed about the various troubling things that have been relayed to me and the party must take appropriate steps to definitively address any wrongdoing. The IL GOP is not a party for a select few; it should be representative of the millions of Illinoisans whose values we champion.”

Lake County GOP Central Committee Chairman Keith Brin, who succeeded Shaw, was particularly vocal in his criticism. He called on all 102 county GOP leaders to demand Shaw’s resignation, asserting, “We have crossed a rubicon.” Brin also criticized Chairman Don Tracy and the state party leadership for their inaction, saying, “I gave the State Party every benefit of the doubt that under Chairman Tracy’s leadership that the Party would step up. Chairman Tracy scheduled a silly meeting to do…nothing.”

Cook County GOP Chairman Sean Morrison joined the call for accountability, labeling the scandal a “significant issue” for the party and questioning the leadership’s commitment to transparency and integrity. The pressure on Tracy has intensified, with key county leaders and state central committee members openly questioning his ability to lead.

This publication has long called for Tracy’s removal, citing his failure to unite the GOP and his disregard for grassroots movements. Despite widespread discontent, Tracy has managed to cling to his position. However, the current scandal might be the catalyst for change.

Jeanne Ives, a member of the Illinois Republican State Central Committee and a close ally of Tracy, also faced backlash. Her dismissive response to inquiries about the incident alienated the grassroots base, highlighting a growing rift within the party. Ives’ controversial Facebook post mocking concerned party members only fueled the fire, with many Republicans criticizing her for belittling her constituents.

The grassroots members, vital to the ILGOP’s success, are demanding accountability and transparency from their leaders. Their frustration underscores the importance of addressing these issues promptly and effectively. The upcoming state central committee meeting represents a critical moment for the party to restore faith in its leadership.

Thanks to Next News Network and Gary Franchi, the spotlight remains on this significant issue, ensuring that the voices of concerned conservatives are heard. As the scandal continues to unfold, Illinois Review will provide updates, emphasizing the need for integrity and transparency in navigating this crisis. The stakes are high, and the future of the ILGOP depends on its ability to address these challenges and rebuild trust with its members.
