On Saturday, Illinois Review editor-in-chief Mark Vargas is moderating a panel discussion titled, ‘What Color is a Conservative’ as part of the Black Conservative Summit taking place this weekend in Tinley Park.

The summit is hosted by The Freedom’s Journal Institute (FJI) – an Illinois-based nonprofit organization designed to “advance the Kingdom of God through socio-political, education and engagement.” The 3-day conference, which begins on Friday and ends on Sunday, includes breakout sessions throughout the day and keynote speakers in the evening. On Saturday evening, U.S. Sen. Tim Scott (R-NC) will headline the dinner program after a private VIP meet-and-greet, which will include special guest and Chicago Cubs co-owner Todd Ricketts.

The event, which takes place at Insight Church in Tinley Park, is expected to draw hundreds of attendees from across the country. The agenda, which includes the tagline, “Black America at a Crossroads: Cultural Marxism vs. A Biblical Worldview,” is timely, just months before a historic presidential election in November.

On Saturday afternoon Vargas, who co-owns Illinois Review – the largest conservative news publication in Illinois, will moderate a panel discussion featuring Kash Kelly, Tamiko Holt and Tom McDonald. The panel begins at 2:45 pm CDT.

In 2011, Dr. Eric Wallace and his wife, Jennifer, founded FJI. Dr. Wallace serves as president, while his wife Jennifer, is the senior fellow for marriage and Family Life.

The Black Conservative Summit (BCS) is an annual event designed to bring together national, state, and local leaders to discuss prominent issues facing today’s society on a national stage. In the past, keynote speakers have included Ken Blackwell, Larry Elderand former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.
