Conservative activist and Chicago native Charlie Kirk, 31 was fatally shot Tuesday during a campus event in Utah, President Donald Trump confirmed in a Truth Social post.
“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by All, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlier, we love you!”
Kirk, who founded Turning Point USA in the suburbs of Chicago in 2012 and served as its CEO, was shot in the neck during a Q&A with students at Utah Valley University in Orem.
Local, state, and federal authorities swarmed the Utah Valley University campus Tuesday and continued searching for the shooter. A university spokesperson said the suspect remains at large and is not in custody.
Kirk leaves behind a wife and two young children.
