Two weeks ago, the Conservative Political Action Conference 2022 commonly known as CPAC was held August 4-7 at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, Texas. The theme this year was “Fire Pelosi-Save America.”  CPAC themes in the past included, What Makes America Great, America Uncanceled, and Awake not Woke. The CPAC events are considered the largest gatherings of conservatives in the world.

The conference lasted three days with hundreds of speakers, meetings,  book signings, and breakout sessions. There was an expo hall including booths for Moms For America, Turning Point USA, Patriot Mobile, and the MAGA MALL store of Trump-related merchandise. You can see the agenda and watch most of the speakers here on the CPAC link or download the CPAC 2022 app: https://na.eventscloud.com/website/34479/. The event is run by the American Conservative Union (ACU) led by Matt and Mercedes Schlapp.

Arizona Republican Governor nominee Kari Lake

The CPAC event is a chance to see, hear, and meet in person activists, media people, elected officials, candidates, and fellow patriots from across the country and the world. Topics included the upcoming midterms, medical privacy, the January 6 hearings, the border crisis, and the biggest question that if President Trump will run again in 2024. President Trump took great pride in the success of his endorsed candidates winning their primaries. They included Kari lake for Arizona Governor, Tutor Dixon for Michigan Governor, and Mary Miller for Congress in Illinois. All three were speakers on the main stage during the conference. For me attending CPAC, I often try to get a photo with everybody I meet and talk to. The following are some of the 4500 who attended.

The CPAC straw poll is one of major news items of the week.  President Trump won the poll as the choice to run in 2024 with 69% over Florida Governor Ron DeSantis receiving  24%. No other possible candidate received over 2%.

The poll asked who CPAC attendees thought the democrat nominee would be in 2024. California Governor lead with 37% followed by a Michelle Obama at 16% with Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton tied for third at 8%. It was interesting that Illinois Governor J.B. Pritker who has said he might run in 2024 received zero percent in this poll.

The CPAC straw poll gave President Trump gave a 99% approval rating. The President did not announce that he will run in 2024 but gave many hints to it. Many believe he will make an announcement after the midterms in November. With this week’s developments of the FBI raid at his Mar-A-Lago home, some believe this might push up his announcement.

The next CPAC will be announced soon for late February 2023 either in Orlando, Florida or rumored to be moving back to the Gaylord Hotel in Maryland, just outside of Washington D.C.  The midterms are Tuesday, December 8, 2022.  Please continue to follow Illinoisreview.com for local snd national coverage you won’t see anywhere else.
