BENTON, IL – Benton, Illinois Mayor Fred Kondritz filed a police report claiming a man punched him in the face following a discussion about sports. The incident took place in a store.
Kondritz told The Southern Illinoisan he had a brief conversation with the man on Wednesday before the man punched him. The mayor said his face was sore Thursday and he had headaches.
Authorities say a man was arrested following the complaint, and was released. Authorities are investigating what happened.
Kondritz says he's shaken by the ordeal and "lost my confidence." He says Benton police parked a car outside of his house Wednesday night.
