WASHINGTON – For years, Congressman Peter Roskam (IL-06) has been saying the tax code is in dire need of revamping. With a Republican majority in both Congressional chambers and a reform-minded President in the Oval Office, Roskam – who is starting his 11th year in D.C. – may finally get to see that reform come to pass.
Roskam won't just watch it happen, he'll be playing a leading role as the Way & Means Tax Policy Chairman for the 115th Congress, his office announced Monday.
“We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to fix our broken tax code and enhance American competitiveness for generations to come," Roskam said. "I’m honored to hold this important gavel and look forward to putting it to good use shepherding tax reform across the finish line.”
Chairman Roskam previously led the Oversight Subcommittee, where he led efforts to hold the IRS accountable and overhaul its troubled civil asset forfeiture program.
Roskam's legislative efforts to toughen guidelines concerning the IRS denying conservative groups non-profit status were stifled by an antagonistic Obama Administration for eight years.
