Few competitive races for Illinois Senate seats

SPRINGFIELD – The Democrats hold a super-majority in the Illinois Senate, and thus far, few Democrat seats are facing challenges from Republican candidates.

Of the 40 Senate seats that are on the 2016 ballot, 28 will face no challenge from the other major party. Nineteen Democrats and 11 Republicans have no opponents filing for candidacy from the opposing parties. 

Those Democrat incumbents with no Republican opponents include Tony Munoz – 1, Willie DelGado – 2, Kimberly Lightford – 4, Patricia Van Pelt – 5, Heather Steans – 7, Ira Silverstein – 8, John Mulroe – 10, Martin Sandoval – 11, Kwame Raoul – 13, Emil Jones III 14, Jacqui Collins – 16, Donne Trotter -17, Michael Hastings – 19, Iris Martinez – 20, Democrats Cristina Castro/ Steve Caramelli – 22

Toi Hutchinson – 40

Pat McGuire – 43

Dave Koehler – 46

Bill Haine – 56
