SPRINGFIELD – There are few lawmakers in Springfield that are as conservative as Republican state Senator Kyle McCarter, but incumbent Congressman John Shimkus wants downstate voters to believe that his GOP challenger is "Chicagoish."
And while Governor Bruce Rauner has sided with Shimkus over McCarter in the 15th District's GOP primary race, Senator McCarter asked the governor Monday if he believed McCarter was "Chicagoish," and Rauner said "No," according to McCarter's tweet.
The ad from which the image at the top was taken was removed by the Shimkus campaign Tuesday – no explanation provided.
The ad below carries a similar theme, but without the dancing McCarter in the removed ad. This Shimkus ad accuses McCarter of voting in the Senate to fund an array of efforts district voters are sure to find offensive:
An utterly dishonest ad. Look, I don’t think McCarter should have run, but what Shimkus is putting out there about McCarter is blatantly untrue.
Kyle McCarter is one of the few true Illinois Republican politicians I have ever met…. he is 180 degrees from a Chicago politician
One more proof that Shimkus has to go.
