Donald Trump has accused Federal Judge Gonzalo Curiel of being unfair to Trump in the Trump University fraud case because he says Judge Curiel has a conflict of interest because Curiel is a "Mexican."
Judge Curiel was born in 1953 in East Chicago, Indiana and never lived in Mexico. He has a Mexican name because his parents came to the U.S. from Mexico and they became American citizens. Curiel graduated from Indiana University in 1976 and from Indiana University School of Law in 1979.
Mr. Trump's family is German. His grandfather Frederick Drumpf was born in Germany in 1869 and changed the German family name from Drumpf to Trump. But, of course, Donald Trump does not call himself a German.
