PHILADELPHIA – Illinois Congressman Luis Gutierrez (D-04) started his speech before the Democratic National Convention Monday night with a smile, but in his trademark manner, shifted quickly to a scowl as he railed against Donald Trump as a "bully."

"My parents were born American citizens, but when they moved along with half a million other Puerto Ricans in the 1950s, they were greeted with scorn and discrimination.

"Politicians called them criminals. They said my parents were dangerous, diseased and would ruin the country. Sound familiar to you tonight? Nobody spoke up against the bigotry and hatred my parents endured."

Gutierrez ignored a key difference – his parents entered legally, and Republican nominee Donald Trump wants to build a wall on the southern border to prevent illegal entry into America. Gutierrez called promises of deporting

"You better believe I'm using my voice against the discrimination we hear today! I'll raise my voice against a bully who calls hard-working immigrants 'criminals' and 'rapists'!" Gutierrez said.

He went on to defend Planned Parenthood, same sex marriage and declare that Democrats and Hillary Clinton would "take on the NRA."
