"Angry voters aired their grievances at state politicians over the lack of a state budget Thursday night at a town hall event hosted by AARP and NPR Illinois. … The state's backlog of unpaid bills is quickly careening toward the $12 billion dollar benchmark — a number which seems unfathomable to most taxpayers. … The overall state debt is actually much higher. A study published last month by Truth In Accounting shows a $210 billion budget shortfall at a cost of $50,400 per taxpayer. The median income in Illinois in 2015 was roughly $59,000. …"
