A new Republican student association thrives in downtown Chicago at the John Marshall Law School (JMLS). It’s headed by Joe Dusek, a second-year law student. Dusek is not your typical student as he is a college math professor at Triton College with a Ph.D. in applied statistics from Loyola University. He has been active in local politics for years trying to elect Republican candidates in Cook County.
The JMLS Republican Student Association hosted two events this last semester. On March 28, 2017, the group welcomed Judge James Allegretti as its inaugural speaker. Judge Allegretti is a 1978 JMLS alumnus and was one of just two Republicans elected to the bench in Cook County last November. On April 17, 2017, Lt. Gov. Evelyn Sanguinetti, a 1998 JMLS alumnae, addressed the association and other guests.
Dusek said, “We were very pleased with the turn out for both events having students from the University of Chicago, IIT-Kent and Loyola schools of law attend, along with representatives from the Chicago Young Republicans and the Chicago Republican Women’s Network.”
Dusek’s goal is to one day host a countywide Republican student association event.
What’s next for the JMLS Republican student association? Dusek was coy with his answer to that question, but promised even more exciting guests for the 2017/2018 academic year.
