An Apology to Illinois Review readers

To: Illinois Review Readers

From: Illinois Review editorial board

Since CNBC's Chris Matthews declared a couple of weeks ago that "Republicans are told [to] ‘read the Wall Street Journal, play golf, and talk about pro sports.' The men especially are all programmed a certain way. They don't have too many outliers, Republicans. They all behave basically the same, right?", we're breaking our regular format to share U.S. Open standings.

We at Illinois Review seem to owe our readers, who for the most part are conservatives, Republicans and energetic Trump supporters, an apology. We weren't as sensitive as we should have been to what you're really interested in … the WSJ, golf and pro sports. We've mistakenly been focused all this time on serious conservative issues and Illinois' corrupt politics.

So today, we're sharing this morning's PGA's standings on Round 2 of the U.S. Open. (See below)

And as if that wasn't enough, we discovered yesterday that the world's premiere investigative agency – the FBI – revealed through one employee that President Donald Trump's voters are  "poor to middle class, uneducated, lazy POS that think we will magically grant them jobs for doing nothing."

That comment was included in the 500 plus page IG report on how the FBI handled the Clinton e-mail investigation released Thursday.

We had no idea that Illinois Review readers fit that description. After 13 years, we remain convinced our readers – conservative, religious, Trump voters – are educated, thoughtful, hard working, valuable taxpayers that do everything they can NOT to drain the public treasury.

But some of them like golf over baseball and football, so we'll give that description to Chris Matthews – and offer the PGA standings for Friday.

God bless you, conservative Trump supporters. Together, we'll not only "Make America Great Again," we'll do the seemingly impossible: we'll "Make Illinois Great Again!"

  1. What a wonderful tongue in cheek article, Fran and Dennis! Thanks for writing it and setting the record straight.
I am proud of the description of me as revealed by one FBI employee that President Donald Trump’s voters are “poor to middle class, uneducated, lazy POS that think we will magically grant them jobs for doing nothing.”
Such rhetoric will only help the Republican Party.

  2. Well this businessman has not read the open borders liberal rag known as WSJ since college nor have I ever played Golf though I had lunch at a few golf courses, and I do not follow sports, in fact I think professional and college sports is in large part what destroyed America.
Besides I am too busy beating my wife for not keeping the children quiet and disturbing the rest of the trailer park with all their hollering.

  3. Oh and they might want to note according to glassdoor the salary for the FBI Director is 121-129k, putting them in the middle class.
By the way, I personally know about 18 FBI Agents. I know the Republican talking point is to only disparage the head honchos, but I have never been impressed by any of the agents except the ones in IT.
As for Chris Matthews remember back in 2004 when he ran like a little girl from then 72 year old Zell Milller? After the intellectual beating Zell administered to Matthews, I would have gleefully watched a physical encounter.
Zell was correct, we would benefit as a nation if duelling was still the order of the day.

  4. It wasn’t “poor to middle class, uneducated, lazy POS that think we will magically grant them jobs for doing nothing.” who defeated possibly the worst Presidential candidate in the country’s history. It more accurately describes the democrat constituency. It’s good these people open their mouths so people can really see who they are. Evil and corrupt.

  5. Golf?
    Golf?
    Golf?
Isn’t that an idiot’s game where you HIT a ball AWAY from you then CHASE it, only to hit it away AGAIN and then chase it again? Aren’t “lies” involved concerning how the ball lands?
Then you go to some hole called the nineteenth to drink, and discuss other forms of “lies” concerning the scores?

  6. As you know Illinois Review is focused on political news but on occasion there is a human interest story or even a sports story. In 2016, I wrote about the Chicago Cubs winning the world series. I also wrote about the Cubs parade but of course politics entered into play. All the politicians jumped on the bandwagon, even ending up in the parade. Links to stories below:

In 2015, I wrote about Cubs opening day, just another baseball story except politicians and bathrooms ended up being the story. Just another political story?
