WASHINGTON – Americans are being taught to fear people different from themselves, Congressman Luis Gutierrez said on the US House floor this week. And that behavior is linked to President Trump, he said.
Gutierrez' comments were in response to an incident at a Cook County Forest Preserve in which a 24 year old woman preparing for a birthday celebration was verbally approached by an older man criticizing her Puerto Rican flag display.
"I wonder where they get such an idea?" Gutierrez said. "When our president calls Puerto Ricans lazy, and expensive to help, it hurts our nation. When he calls Mexicans rapists … (on and on) … it takes a toll on our nation," he said.
