A new study finds that depression, rather than discrimination, is driving the exodus of PhD-trained women from STEM fields.

Previous research has suggested that many women leave STEM to pursue fields that involve more "social responsibility," but the current study notes that more research is needed to understand why so many women in STEM are depressed.
