Capitalism-socialism

By Randy Rossi -

Gallup just released a new poll that should scare the heck out of every rational and informed American. That poll shows that a growing number of Americans are embracing socialism.

In their new poll, Gallup reports that 43% of all Americans embrace some form of socialism while only 51% of Americans think that socialism would be a bad thing for our country. Incredibly, 6% have no opinion. If that doesn’t scare any rational American who has watched Venezuela collapse under socialism, what would?

Even worse, other polls have shown that 48% of Millennials and 52% of Generation Z prefer socialism over capitalism and they will soon dominate the vote as Baby Boomers exit the scene.

What makes this so scary are the hard facts about socialism that these people that like socialism either don’t know or don’t understand.

First, as Vladimir Lenin said, “The goal of socialism is communism." Under socialism and communism, over 80 million people have starved to death or been killed in the last 100 years.

Under Mao’s communism, over 48 million Chinese people starved to death. Under Stalin’s communism, over 20 million people in the USSR starved to death or were murdered.

Venezuela was the wealthiest country in Central America and because they have more oil than any other country on Earth, they should be one of the wealthiest countries in the world. Then the Venezuelan people tragically made the horrific mistake of electing socialist leaders and now the Venezuelan people are starving to death with no electricity while 10% of have fled their once prosperous nation. The average Venezuelan has lost over 20 pounds in the last 12 months because there is not enough food to eat. And this incredible fall from prosperity to tragedy occurred in just 17 years!

This is more proof of how fragile prosperity and freedom are.

How did this growing preference for socialism happen in America the most prosperous nation in the world thanks to capitalism? Lenin explained this as well when he said “Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted”. Sadly, many of our school systems no longer teach the traditional  American values of competition and hard work that made America the most prosperous and powerful nation in the history of the world. Those are the very values that also created the largest and wealthiest middle class in the world which also brought freedom to over a billion people by winning WWI, WWII, and the Cold War against the communist Soviet Union which collapsed.

Today, too many of our schools focus on “social justice” and “political correctness” instead of teaching the concepts of a color blind meritocracy, hard work, individual responsibility, and the golden rule of “Survival of the fittest” which drives the real world. There are no “safe zones” and no “therapy puppies” in the real world like there are in our schools today! That is preparing those kids for failure when they enter the real world of intense competition and capitalism in which everybody “Reaches up for the brass ring” instead of socialism in which everybody “Reaches down to the lowest common denominator."

Because so many young people today are not prepared for the harsh world of competition and capitalism that created our prosperity and wealth, when they enter the real world they like the idea of “free stuff” under socialism that they think they “deserve”.  And sadly today, too many politicians are promising all that “free stuff under” socialism to get elected. Anybody who passionately studies history knows how this movie eventually ends.

As Edward Gibbons wrote in “The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire” over 240 years ago, “The insidious poison of free bread and circuses” caused the fall of the great Roman Empire. Corrupt Roman politicians gave the Roman citizens what we now call welfare to get more votes. The Roman citizens became lazy and refused to work or join the Roman Army and eventually Rome became broke and was conquered by the “Barbarians.”

This is a repetitive pattern in history and it is exactly why Thomas Jefferson said “There hasn’t been a democracy yet that hasn’t committed suicide." He also explained how democracies commit suicide when he said “Democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who are not."

That, folks, is socialism! Socialism is the path to national suicide. Let’s hope that American voters don’t choose that path!

  1. Each generation must renew it’s commitment to the American Experiment or it will fail. Many staunch conservatives like Charles Krauthammer, began as liberals only to realize the HORROR of socialism. I pray that this truth is gained by each generation as I’ve seen it in my kids and my grands. No worldly society is perfect due to human frailty and sin but God’s plan is to perfect us through The Holy Spirit by accepting Jesus as our true Lord and Savior! Only through this atonement and the journey of sanctification will we go home where perfection is realized with Abba our Heavenly Father! For those who are of this world, non-believers, this will be their heaven for eternity away from The Father will be torment. Our Founding Fathers understood that the republic could ONLY SURVIVE if it’s people continued to be people of faith from whence our moral compass comes from. Without a God given compass, each person is lost and collectively so is society.
