Today's submission by Thorner covers the second half of Clare Lopez's May 20 lecture webinar, which delves into China's bio-weapons program. In it you will find fascinating and thought-provoking information that can be found on the Internet, but finding it takes much time and work.
Clare Lopez began her lecture with these word: “We are 5 months into it in this nation, but in China it started way before. There isn't much talk about where the virus originated, but there is talk of Wuhan, a major, modern and gleaming skyscraper city, capitol of Hubei Provence, located in south central China."
There are two laboratories located in Wuhan: 1) The Wuhan Center of Disease Control, a level 2 lab geared to a certain level of handling of viruses and bacteria and 2) Wuhan Institute of Virology, a level 4 lab and the highest category, where the most dangerous scourges of mankind are dealt with like Anthrax, the Plague, Smallpox, Ebola, and the entire family of coronaviruses.
Ms. Lopez suspects the latter named lab as the possible or likely source of the coronavirus until other evidence comes forth. According to Lopez, the virus may have gotten loose out of the Wuhan Institute of Virology lab by mistake in November of 2019 or possibly earlier in October. Lopez's reasoning is based on the panic led response from China. Unprepared for the virus to have gotten loose, China responded accordingly:
- Silenced doctors and researchers who were trying to warn the world.
- Ordered virus samples to be destroyed.
- Allowed flights to be continued to the rest of the world out of Wuhan but not to the rest of China.
China's massive biological warfare program
Ms. Lopez went on to enlighten viewers about the Wuhan Institute of Virology. That lab, and dozens of other labs, are part of a massive biological warfare program in China. Lopez believes how we came to understand the Soviet Russian biological warfare program is much like what is now occurring in China. Two defectors came out from Russia in 1990 and the early 1990's at a time when the Soviet Union was in a state of collapse.
Explained by Lopez was how Russia had a network of civilian laboratories in this nation. Once the laboratories were revealed, the real programs were placed under military and KGB control, and the places revealed became showcases. Mrs. Lopez suspects the same thing is happening in China, even as the Wuhan Institute of Virology lab is getting lots of attention.
Concerning was this statement by Lopez “that the Wuhan Institute of Virology may not be the lab where the deadliest research is going on.” What especially concerns Lopez is the lack of questioning taking place in this nation about China's biological warfare program.
Lopez made a point in explaining that everything she cites is sourced through extensive on-line research. This includes her May 11th Newsmax article, Coronavirus Didn't Spring From Nothing, published on Monday May 11, 2020, which she used as the basis for the remainder of her lecture.
As to China's bio-weapon program, the Chinese Communist Party, which rules China, would rather not have us dig into it. Accordingly, the Chinese Communist Party leadership has quite a lot of influence here in the U.S. on University campuses with the establishment of Confucius Institutes and the 1000 Talents Program, which shovels money into universities. There have been arrests made of respected professors associated with the 1000 Talent s Program who took money, never revealing income that came from China.
Since some of our best labs for all kinds of research are found in our elite universities, deep penetration exists. Penetration has likewise taken place within government itself. An example was given of Diane Feinstein, as a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, had a Chinese spy working for her for many years. An appropriate question to ask is who vets staff? Maybe no one, but maybe no one cares.
The media has also been infiltrated with obvious pro-Chinese slant, giving the benefit of doubt to China, with cautionary advice not to break relations with China or to apply more sanctions. Such has resulted in a massive penetration of our American system. As to no questions being asked, this is China’s preference.
China's cover-up demands clarification by U.S.
It is very telling that on May 6, 2020 the PRC ambassador to the United Nations, Chen Xu, told reporters that he would not allow the international community to investigate the source of the novel coronavirus “until after a 'final victory' against the disease", which said Lopez, "sounds like an indefinite postponement."
Although U.S. requests were made to visit The Wuhan Institute, visas were denied. But what about the many other facilities scattered among China's military and defense establishments?
Ms. Lopez would like to see more clarity coming from elected officials and Trump administration officials. Lopez spoke about the appearance of Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on May 3 on the ABC News program This Week, where he answered that he did not disagree with experts who say the SARS and Covid is manmade; however, moments later Pompeo agreed with a statement from the Office of the Director of National Security that the IC concurs with the wide scientific consensus that the COVID-19 virus was not manmade or genetically modified. It can't be both!
The U.S. leadership must speak openly and clearly about Beijing's advanced Biological Weapons Program (BWP). Although this particular coronavirus may have escaped a CCP lab accidentally, Lopez believes its creation was anything but unintentional.
China ignores international law
Ms. Lopez then went on to talk about international law and treaties. The Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) opened for signatures in 1972 and entered into force in 1975. Out of 194 countries in the entire world, 180 countries signed. Even though this nation had a very serious biological weapons program which began in the 1950's , it was ended in 1969 under President Richard Nixon, three years before this nation joined the initial signatories in 1972 of the BWC, which prohibited the development, production, stockpiling or transfer of any BW agents or Toxins that that have no justification for prophylactic, protective or other peaceful purposes. China has been a signatory to the BC Convention since November 15,1984 to today.
The coronavirus, perhaps one of the most common viruses on the face of the earth, is a disease-causing microorganism that falls under BWC prohibition for development for a biological weapon. There is a whole family of coronaviruses, which includes SARS, MERS, H1N1, the common cold and all kinds if flu. Deaths from the flu every year in this nation year can run 30,000 to 60,000 individuals.
Studies confirming China's bio-weapons program
Although Ms. Lopez spoke of how time consuming it can be to find information about the Chinese Communist Party's bio-weapons program, she indicated that open sources could be found on the Internet.
Mentioned was a 2001 Pentagon report, "Proliferation: Threat and Response." in which the Pentagon stated: “China is believed to possess an offensive biological warfare capability based on technology developed prior to its accession to the BWC in 1984.”
Also mentioned was a study by Dany Shoham, a former Israeli military intelligence official who hold a doctorate in medical microbiology. Shoham’s April 2015 study concludes that Beijing has “ 12 facilities affiliated with the defence establishment, plus 30 facilities affiliated with the PLA, that are involved in research, development, production, testing or storage of BW.” 42 is a large number, even allowing for overlap.
More recent articles cited by Clare Lopez about China's offensive BW program follow:
- An August 2019 Department of State report raising concerns about whether China was complying with its BWC commitments, “assesses that China possessed an offensive BW program from the early 1950s to at least the late 1980s”, which would put China's noncompliance date well past the PRC's 1984 ratification of the BWC.
- A January 26, 2020 Washington Times article by Bill Gertz cited Dany Shoham on the likelihood that the Wuhan Institute of Virology is a key facility in China's BW program. The Chinese will say that its research is only offensive in nature, but it's both offensive and defensive.
"Gain of Function" – Chapel Hill research
One of the clearest indicators that Wuhan Institute researchers were working on BW-related coronaviruses is the December 2015 " A SARS-like cluster of circulating bat coronaviruses shows potential for human emergence," which describes "gain of function" efforts that created a hybrid virus non-existent in nature.
The so called "Bat Lady" was one of the authors of the before mentioned study, along with some American researchers from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The "Bat Lady" traveled all over China looking into caves where there were bats, collecting samples to bring back to laboratories for research.
"Gain of function" happened, when using a CRISPR tool (described as a micro level scissors) a lab technician was able to manipulate genetic sequences by snipping out and then snipping something else back in. Three genomic sequences were combined: 1) snippets from the original SARS virus, 2) from HIV (which causes AIDS), and 3) from bat viruses found in China. The result was a coronavirus more capable of human transition from person to person and more able to get inside our lungs cells to do damage.
Ms. Lopez reminded listeners that a virus is not alive, as the definition of life is the ability to reproduce all by itself. Instead, a virus is a micro-organism. As an organism the coronavirus depends on living cells (our cells) to get inside the machinery of our own cells to reproduce, which, in turn, causes our lungs to churn out more coronavirus cells.
The research done at Chapel Hill enabled the coronavirus process to happen more rapidly in humans.
Wrap up: Books and a chilling CCP's message to this nation
Although Clare Lopez's background was that of a Russian expert, she is now immersing herself in Chinese studies. This has enabled Lopez to gain good insight as to why China is behaving the way it does, not only to its own people, but with utter disregard for the lives of people around the world.
Ms. Lopez suggested three books to understand how Xi Jinping and the CCP's top leadership think.
- Art of War by Sun Tzu's 500 B.C.: A collection of sayings that has a lot to say about warfare. Important to Lopez was the part that dealt with the psychology of warfare, how deceit was uppermost in importance in waging warfare.
- Unrestricted Warfare written as a Masters’ thesis by two students for the PLA and published by Communist China. Types of warfare are listed that most would not think of as warfare, such as financial, economic, diplomatic and biological.
- 100 Year Marathon by Michael Pillsbury speaks of time period from 1949 – 2049 when the Chinese leadership believes China will become the sole power on the face of the earth.
In closing, Clare M. Lopez spoke of a chilling and secret speech of Chi Haotian translated into English in 2005. Haotian was China's Defense Minister from 1993 to 2003 and Vice Chairman of the CCP's Central Military Commission. In the speech Gen. Chi openly referred to the CCP's intention to militarily defeat, occupy, and colonize the U.S. And what of 330 million Americans? The CCP will be " using special means to 'clean up' America", i.e., " new bio-weapons."
