84% Undecided: Republican Voters Are Not Lining Up Behind Party Insiders in Illinois Senate Primary

By Mark Weyermuller -

Illinois has been suffering job and commerce loss with shutdowns due to Covid since March of this year.  The comedy business is one example which state officials might had considered non-essential. I feel all jobs are essential.

Chicago area Republicans stepped up to show laughter is essential, especially in times of crisis.

Last week, Zanies Comedy Club in Rosemont, Illinois reopened for shows. Former Illinois congressional candidate and current 39th Chicago Ward deputy committeeman Max Rice organized a group of candidates to bring laughter back.

To start out the fun, Max asked the audience when their first job was. People responded by yelling out ages "15-16" and so on.  Max quipped, "Our Governor J.B. Pritzker got his first job just last year."  The audience roared.

Here is a clip from Max's performance: https://youtu.be/hTOysNdg1i8

Adding to the fun was Jeff Muehlfelder, a Chicago Police detective  and current candidate for the Illinois house, 19th district. One of his jokes, “It’s getting so cold outside that I saw a democrat with his hands in his own pocket.”   Here is a clip: https://youtu.be/wkzBo-6NXPM

Former Lake County County sheriff and GOP candidate for the Illinois United States Senate Mark Curran took the stage. He was joined by his opponent, a cardboard cutout of Democrat incumbent Dick Durbin: https://youtu.be/VjvOFpSYM1

Sargis Sangari added some comedy to the stage. He is a twenty year veteran of the United States military and now running for the House of Representatives in the tough 9th Congressional District.  Here is his clip: https://youtu.be/iiLrsOiON9g

Other bits included jake Leahy, board members from the Bannockburn School District along with Zanies regulars Tim Slagle and Dobie Maxwell.

It is good to see comedy back in Illinois, as many feel it is essential. There is no dispute to most that all jobs are essential.  There are just 21 days till the election on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 with early voting taking place now.

Zanies is open now.  They are allowing limited audiences with safety precautions.  Here is their website: http://rosemont.zanies.com/
