Where’s Weyermuller? Car Parading with the Chicago March For Life 2021

By Mark Weyermuller –

The annual Chicago March for Life 2021 took place last Saturday with supporters of life “gathering” in a car parade. There were 580 cars registered to drive an 18 mile route, starting at Saint Cantius Church in Bucktown and ending up at at Women's Resource Center in Evergreen Park. The organizers decided due to Covid-19 concerns that it would be safer to do a car parade rather than a march, which in years past over 4000 people walked together in support of life.

Drivers gathered at St. Cantius Church at noon, where they lined up and staged the parade on six streets. The participants were given signs for their cars that said things like “Choose Life” and “Remember the Unborn.”  The parade had a police escort but they stopped for red lights so the parade got separated in groups. I watched the start at the church then took the expressway so I could watch the whole processional in downtown Chicago.

The annual march coincides with the 47th anniversary of the Roe vs Wade Supreme Court case legalizing abortion at anytime during a pregnancy. The case was decided January 22, 1973.  It is estimated 63 million unborn babies have been killed through abortion in the United States since that decision.
