When I heard about HB 3360, which recently passed the Illinois General Assembly, I couldn’t believe that our lawmakers had once again voted to pass legislation that hurts our state’s businesses and medical professionals. Now, our only hope of dodging this bullet is if Governor Pritzker takes a stand and vetoes HB 3360 now.
HB 3360 was introduced and quickly passed during the last days of the 101st General Assembly, leaving no time for meaningful debate. This bill unfairly impacts everyone except trial lawyers by enforcing nearly nine times higher interest rates than any other state in personal injury cases. Additionally, this interest begins accruing before a lawsuit even begins.
Besides making Illinois an outlier nationally, HB 3360 would be detrimental and further drive talented doctors and employers out of our great state. You see, when you break it down, HB 3360 is ultimately a handout to trial lawyers, who will now be incentivized to bring as many frivolous lawsuits against struggling employers as they can.
In these hard times, our lawmakers should stand against anti-business legislation such as HB 3360. As such, I urge Governor Pritzker to veto HB 3360 immediately.
