According to the New York Times' most recent data update, the number of COVID cases in Illinois during the current Omicron spike could be leveling off.

Still showing the highest numbers since October 2021, the numbers show COVID cases did not continue to skyrocket as they had in previous weeks, when Illinoisans were gathering for the holidays. Altogether since the pandemic commenced, Illinois stats show the state has had over two and a half million cases.

Positive COVID test rates are still high, nearing 16% – and Illinois reports nearly 48 million tests since they first became available last year.
