States are having to scramble after the Biden administration warned in April that it would begin to punish states that pass laws preventing children from undergoing gender reassignment.
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said in an April 8 news conference, “President Biden has committed in both words and actions to fight for all Americans and will not hesitate to hold these states accountable,” Psaki said.
The White House held the press conference on the same day Alabama passed a law making it a felony to provide puberty blockers, hormone treatment, and gender-reassignment surgery to children. Previously, Texas and Arizona passed laws cracking down on child gender-reassignment operations. More than one dozen states are considering similar laws.
