By Randy Rossi –

The Wall Street Journal completely summarized President Biden’s and the Democrat’s latest proposed abuse of American tax payers with the title of their editorial on the subject, “The Taxpayer Con of the Century”.  In that editorial, they exposed how President Biden and the Dems want to buy the votes of young people by forgiving all or part of their massive college debt. Polls are showing that Dem’s are rapidly losing the approval of young voters as inflation crushes their lives. Despite their effort to blame Vladimir Putin for the highest inflation in 41 years, young voters know that Democrats caused that inflation with their massive government spending that has taken our debt to a horrific $30 trillion. So to buy their votes, Dems want to write off a huge chunk of their college debt with your tax money.

The horrific college debt problem is a perfect example of how “free” government money can create massive inflation and cause extensive damage to our culture. Back when I went to college decades ago, one year of college at the school I went to cost roughly $2,000 which included tuition, books, and “room and board”. I was able to make enough money in a “blue collar” summer job to pay for that each year. I had no debt when I graduated. Then the federal government insured those school loans and suddenly school tuitions and costs started rising 4 times faster than inflation making college totally unaffordable and saddling students with massive debts. To go to the college I went to decades ago now costs $29,117 a year vs. the roughly $2,000 a year I paid. How many students can make $29,117 with a “blue collar” summer job to pay for their college like I did when college only cost me roughly $2,000 a year?

So to buy the votes of these young people with huge student debt with your money, Dem’s and President Biden want to write off billions of dollars of those student loans to buy their votes. Considering the fact that 65% of Americans did not go to college, it sure doesn’t seem fair that they should pay the debt of kids that did go to college! Plus, all of us that paid for our own college or did pay off our student loans are starting to feel like fools for doing what used to be a key responsibility of life, paying our own debt!! On top of the tragedy of creating massive debt, colleges today do not provide the same route to prosperity as they did when I went to college. Now kids are paying tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars to go to college to get useless degrees that lead to a job as a barista or some other low income job. To make things even worse, most colleges have become toxic to the very fundamental values that made America great; discipline, hard work, responsibility, love of country, and love of traditional American values. Sadly, the WSJ got this right, writing off student debt is indeed “The Taxpayer Con of the Century”.
