Latest polls show Darren Bailey; Kathy Salvi pulling ahead in GOP statewide primaries

WAUCONDA – One from Downstate, the other from near the Wisconsin border – state Senator Darren Bailey – farmer and businessman from downstate Xenia and Kathy Salvi – an attorney from Lake County's Wauconda. The two are leading in Illinois Republican Primary races that will be at the top of Tuesday's ballot.

Bailey has been working the campaign trail for over a year and is just completing a statewide tour in which he reports visiting all 102 Illinois counties. He is getting 37.6% of the vote in a six-way race. Second is first-time candidate Jesse Sullivan at 17.2%. Third is Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin, whose campaign received $50 million from Illinois billionaire Ken Griffin, with an embarrassing 10.7% in the polls conducted by Ogden & Fry. 

When undecideds were pushed, Bailey grabbed 44.8% of the polling votes.

  • Richard Irvin 10.7% 
  • Gary Rabine  8.5%
  • Paul Schimpf 3.2%
  • Max Solomon 0.8%
  • Undecided 20% 

Salvi, who ran for Congress a few years back, has raised her numbers to be ahead of her closest challenger in the Republican US Senate race Peggy Hubbard by 20.1% to 11,2%. Eight people are vying for the U.S. Senate seat.

  • Matthew Dubiel  6.3%
  • Bobby Piton 3.3%
  • Jimmy Lee Tillman 2.2%
  • Maryann Mahlen 2.0%
  • Casey Chleback 1.3% 
  • Anthony Williams 0.2% 
  • Undecided 53.3% 

When undecideds were pushed, Kathy Salvi received 38.2% of the vote. 

The Baileys and the Salvis were at the Trump rally Saturday night in Mendon, Illinois.
