An estimated 700 police vehicles joined the procession to a crematorium in Forest Park . Over 600 new Chicago Police recruits lined the route just outside the school. The funeral took place at Saint Rita of Cascia Shrine Chapel. Police officers and visitors from around country came to honor this hero who gave his life protecting the citizens of Chicago.

The casket was brought out by pallbearers in dress uniforms as a single bagpiper played Amazing Grace. As they cleared the stairs, one hundred bagpipes and drums joined in.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Police Superintendent David Brown gave Vasquez Lasso’s wife and mother each a folded city flag. There was also a five gun salute followed by several hand salutes in unison with the several thousand police officers outside.
