DuPage Township Trustee and progressive Democrat Reem Townsend, a Muslim American and the daughter of Palestinian immigrants – has taken to social media in the last week to call Israel – a longtime ally of the United States – a “terrorist country” after Israel declared war on the terrorist organization Hamas following a surprise attack that has left over 1,300 Israelis dead – including innocent men, women, children and babies.

In a Facebook post earlier this week, Townsend wrote,

“Israel is a terrorist country. Any act against them is an act of liberation and self defense.”

The DuPage Township Trustee – a Democrat, has been active on X over the last several days and has continued her anti-American and anti-Israel rhetoric. On October 11th, she posted,

“Basically the stance the US is taking is that killing children and babies is just a matter of war. Disgusting.”

Since the surprise terrorist attack on Israel last weekend that has left over 1,300 dead – Israel has launched a barrage of missiles aimed at the Gaza Strip, where Hamas has its headquarters purposely situated alongside civilian residents.

Hamas is known for using innocent civilians as human shields and they fire rockets from schools and hospitals – knowing that military strategy and response includes firing weapons back at the targets where they were fired from.

Israeli Defense Forces have reported in the last few days that last weekend Hamas terrorists assassinated innocent Israeli civilians including men, women, children and babies. In many cases, Hamas fighters decapitated babies, brutally murdered children while in their beds and burned their little bodies. Photos released by the Israeli government show homes and children’s bedrooms riddled with bullets.

On Friday, the Israeli military ordered 1 million civilians to flee Gaza and head for safety before a ground invasion begins that will undoubtedly involve intense battles between the military and Hamas fighters.

Earlier this week, Israel shut off all electricity, food, water and fuel in Gaza to weaken and disrupt the terrorist organization, while at the same time warning civilians to flee the area as soon as possible – even dropping leaflets all over Gaza warning residents to “evacuate your homes immediately.”

They rain rockets and bullets on us. We rain leaflets on them telling innocents to leave their homes.

Several days ago, Townsend reposted a post on X that said, “Israel is committing a mass atrocity: bombing and starving Palestinians indiscriminately. And it’s doing it out in the open – with US backing.”

(X/Reem Townsend)

Townsend even took a shot at Los Angeles Lakers NBA star LeBron James, who posted on his X account with 52.7 million followers – a message of support for Israel that read,

“The devastation in Israel is tragic and unacceptable. The murder and violence against innocent people by Hamas is terrorism. The SpringHill Company family send our deepest condolences to Israel and the Jewish community. We pray for peace in the region and reiterate our continued commitment to fight hate in all its forms. We all must work to ensure this tragedy does not spread even more hate, racism, and antisemitism.”

Townsed replied to James’ post with a short response: “You should know better.”

Here in the United States, synagogues and law enforcement officials are on high alert. And on Thursday, a temple in Skokie, just north of Chicago received a bomb threat and had to be evacuated.

Fortunately, no explosives were found after local police searched the temple, but the threats of terrorism and hate crime incidents against the Jewish community remain a real threat following Hamas’ call to action earlier this week.

In Washington, Democrat U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) has sparked outrage for referring to Israel as an “apartheid government.” Both Republicans and Democrats have come out against her comments – and the Democratic leadership in DC has remained silent – an indication that they do not agree with her position.

Late on Friday, the Chicago City Council approved a resolution condemning the attacks by Hamas on Israel by a voice vote.

The next DuPage Township board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 17th at 7:00 pm in Bolingbrook, and Townsend’s public comments are expected to be a topic of discussion.
