A Chicagoland family’s Starbucks run went viral after their order of Charlie Kirk’s favorite drink was handed back with the word “Loser” scrawled on the cup – prompting the multinational coffeehouse chain to issue a public statement and shut down the store for the day.

In a post on X accompanied by a video, Jacqueline Garretson wrote, “My [mother-in-law] ordered Charlie Kirk’s favorite Starbucks drink (Mint Majesty + honey) – but the cup came back with ‘Loser’ written on it.”

The clip spread rapidly across social media, amassing millions of views as calls to boycott the coffee chain flooded the comments.

Starbucks confirmed the incident in a statement, saying: “There are no restrictions on customers using Charlie Kirk’s name on their order, and we are following up with our team.” By Wednesday afternoon, the store had been temporarily closed.

The statement also drew the attention of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, a close confidant of President Donald Trump, who wrote in all caps on X: “UPDATE: STARBUCKS EMPLOYEES MUST WRITE CHARLIE KIRK’S NAME.”

By late Wednesday evening, Garretson had posted another update, writing, “We asked Starbucks for accountability by 5 pm. When we arrived, the store was temporarily closed. Thank you to everyone who has called and stopped into the store over the past 48 hours. We are all Charlie now. Stay tuned.”

MarketWatch reported Wednesday that Starbucks stock fell 1.36%, snapping a two-day winning streak. The outlet noted that the stock also underperformed compared to several of its competitors.

This publication has also confirmed that people close to President Donald Trump are tracking the story. We will continue to follow developments and publish updates as they become available.
