CHICAGO – It is being reported that Donald Trump’s Illinois campaign director – Kent Gray – has been sidelined after Trump grew furious over what sources described as a lack of organization in the state in the run-up to Tuesday’s primary.
Sources told POLITICO that Gray was sidelined early last week after the Trump camp learned he made few inroads with get-out-the-vote efforts and organizing volunteers.
“One thing after another was bungled,” said one source with knowledge of the discussions.
According to polls, Trump is leading in Illinois, with Ted Cruz in second and John Kasich in third.
It was a long time in coming. The campaign has badly disorganized in Illinois.
Who in his right mind would select the UIC Pavilion for an open to the public rally? It would be akin to having a Cubs Convention at US Cellular Park and being surprised if angry White Sox fans were present.
The delegate and alternate slates have been shoddy (one includes a diploma mill faker posing as a lawyer). The campaign also failed in its objection to the Kasich slate by not filing a sufficient number of copies upon the State Board of Elections as stated in the Election Code.
If Trump does well in Illinois, it will not be on account of his local staff.
Social media had protesters planning to break up the Trump rally at UIC for weeks and Trump’s Illinois staff was clueless about it all.
Trump has finally opened a GOTV telephone bank for Northern Illinois with less than fourteen hours to go before the polls open.
No wonder Gray was canned (or “FIRED” if you prefer “The Apprentice”).
Doesn’t this also reflect on Trump’s national team, for choosing this guy and then not watching the store?
