While there is a lot of talk about the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement, one thing that stands out in the aftermath of the Dallas shooting is the large number of people now associating the group with domestic terrorism.
Someone identified as Y.S. went a step beyond calling the BLM organization a terrorist group to create a petition officially recognizing it as such.
The description on the White House petitions page is as follows:
“[T]errorism is defined as ‘the use of violence and intimidation in pursuit of political aims.’ This definition is the same definition used to declare ISIS and other groups, as terrorist organizations. Black Lives Matter has earned this title due to its actions in Ferguson, Baltimore, and even at a Bernie Sanders rally, as well as all over the United States and Canada.
It is time for the pentagon to be consistent in its actions – and just as they rightfully declared ISIS a terror group, they must declare Black Lives Matter a terror group – on the grounds of principle, integrity, morality, and safety.”
At the time of publication, the petition had already garnered 66,897 of the 100,000 signatures required by August 5, 2016 for an official response from the White House.
