The Real Story Isn’t the Bears — It’s Why Everyone Is Leaving Illinois

The Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA) and Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) filed a lawsuit against the Village of Deerfield Thursday morning, April 5, 2018, executive director Richard Pearson announced.

"This legal action is a challenge to the Defendant’s Ordinance O-18-06, passed on April 2, 2018, which bans assault weapons (used specifically as that term is defined in O-18-06) within the Defendant’s municipal limits," he wrote in the ISRA's weekly website report.

The suit was filed In the Circuit Court of the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit Lake County, Illinois, Chancery Division.

The group Guns Save Life – with the help of the National Rifle Association – is also suing Deerfield, WGN reported.

"Every law-abiding villager of Deerfield has the right to protect themselves, their homes, and their loved ones with the firearm that best suits their needs,” said Chris W. Cox, executive director of NRA-ILA, in a statement. “The National Rifle Association is pleased to assist Guns Save Life in defense of this freedom.”

In addition to the news about the lawsuit, the ISRA called on members to call their lawmakers on five gun bills the Illinois General Assembly may be addressing in the next few weeks.

"The first thing we must do is not let the Illinois House and Senate override the Governor’s veto of HB1657.  Please contact you legislators immediately.  This is a gun ban movement, pure and simple.  All of the following bills deserve a NO vote," the site says.

In addition to the GA attempting to override the governor's veto, ISRA point to these gun rights threats:

* HB1467  Bans bump stocks and rolls back municipal pre-emption on banning long guns
* HB1469  Bans all magazines over 10 rounds and makes it a felony for sale, purchase or possession of
of high capacity magazines and body armor
* HB1465   Increases age to 21 to possess or purchase a rifle
* HB1664   Establishes an anonymous snitch line to declare gun owners a “clear and present danger”
                   without any real cause.

"The hysterical attacks on gun owners and the Second Amendment have predictably manifested itself in an increase of firearm sales.  March 2018 set a new record of 2,767,699 NICS checks,"  This is up more than 330,000 NICS checks than what occurred in March 2017.  Buying a firearm is only a small part of securing the Second Amendment.
