WASHINGTON — This week, Chairman of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Health, Representative Peter Roskam (R-IL) and Ranking Member Sandy Levin (D-MI) joined Ways and Means Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) and Ranking Member Richard Neal (D-MA) in releasing a white paper outlining solutions to combat the opioid epidemic.
Representative Roskam has sought feedback from medical stakeholders and constituents that include ideas lawmakers may consider to prevent and treat opioid abuse and dependence in the Medicare Program. The Ways and Means Committee placed a Request for Information (RFI) which received over 100 submissions.
“The opioid crisis is ravaging our communities, including in my district,” Representative Roskam said. “I’ve spent time in the district listening to doctors, police chiefs, educators and care takers and I have heard a common theme: legislation that strengthens education, treatment and screening is needed to ensure Medicare beneficiaries and their families are protected. It’s a tragic situation to see a loved one in pain – we need to work together and use all tools available to us to deal with this crisis.”

Recommendations from stakeholders in the white paper include:
- Improve treatment and reimbursements, including increasing access to Medication Assisted Treatment, utilization and access to non-opioid treatments of pain, as well as modernizing reimbursement and quality measures;
- Utilize tools to prevent overprescribing and abuse, including Part D lock-in, limiting prescriptions, and better data tracking; and
- Enhance screening for opioid use disorders, provider education and communication, and patient education.

Amazing how the MSM has taken the focus off heroin and on to opiods.
Amazing how RINO Roskam never takes on a serious problem – like immigration – where he supports H1-B visas that take jobs from American college grads.
What are his PR people going to put out next? “Roskam supports mom and apple pie.?”
How are we going to hold on to the House with limp-wristed people like Roskam?
I hope Rep. Roskam can tell us which article of the Constitution mentions drugs. If that subject isn’t there, there shouldn’t be any federal drug laws.
Peter, Peter, Peter. You never cease to amaze me tackling the easy problems. Why don’t you go after Sanctuary policy? That should be an easy issue for you to solve, being that your governor, and most Illinois politicians, are not only in violation of federal law, but also in violation of the oath you swore to uphold, and protect, the U.S.Constitution,
and preserve the law. You see, by violating our laws you have made them worthless, leading to anarchy.
Opioid’s may be a popular subject to discuss with your feckless cohorts, but the people are more concerned about their future in a country that is becoming less citizen friendly, and more pro illegal immigrant. Forget about the B.S. Peter, and start serving the peoples interest!
I’m just wondering where the connection between opioids and Israel is. That’s usually the only thing that wakes Roskam up from his nap.
