Download-1SUGAR GROVE – Telling news reporters Monday morning that the U.S. House should be back in D.C., saying "Two blocks from the US Capitol, you can get coffee or tea…It's time for Congress to get to work,"  Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) also endorsed Jim Oberweis.

McCarthy says the 14th Congressional District race is one of the most important races in the nation and it is critical for voters to get behind Jim Oberweis to defeat Lauren Underwood and her radical agenda for the nation.

“Jim Oberweis is a common-sense leader who understands the big government solutions being offered by Lauren Underwood and her political mentor Nancy Pelosi will do tremendous harm to our nation,” McCarthy said. “Jim’s character and tireless work ethic is exactly what’s needed on Capitol Hill. Make no mistake about it — the pathway to a change in leadership in Congress runs through the 14th District. I proudly endorse Jim Oberweis for Congress and I can’t wait to hit the campaign trail with him.”

McCarthy said Oberweis has his full support and winning this election is a top priority for the National Republican Congressional Committee.

“I am honored to have Leader McCarthy’s support,” Oberweis said. “There is a lot at stake in this election and having his support is important. At every step throughout this pandemic crisis, the Democrats have tried to force their radical agenda on the nation. While the Senate has been meeting and doing the work of the people, Speaker Pelosi refuses to call Congress into session.

"At a time when our nation needs leadership, the Speaker refuses to do her job. We need new leadership in Congress. Lauren Underwood votes in lockstep with Nancy Pelosi and her very first vote next year will be to keep Nancy Pelosi as Speaker. Our district, our state, and our country can’t afford that. I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with Leader McCarthy to move our nation forward.”

Really? Have they dispatched an image consultant and a couple of handlers to start to work with Jim on managing his henceforth terminal case of foot-in-the-mouth disease? I mean that in the kindest way, Jim is coachable, and while likely nothing can be done to improve his charisma deficit, much can be done to mute his natural abrasiveness. With proper mangement, drilling, and coaching Oberweis could, in the end, come across as a sort of geeky but also slightly charming and polite. But to the best of my knowledge that not happened. Nor has a ground game team been dispatched to contact his former campaign volunteers and try and bring them into the fold
I also note the age of some of the likely Obie voters who are not digitally connected. I know for a fact the RNC is still ignoring them. My guess is team Oberweis will also.
In summary, this seat is winnable. Oberweis can get a public persona rework and learn to project something other than the tired old, awkward, foot-in-his-mouth candidate of the past. But I am not hearing of any moves made in that direction nor of any moves made to shore up his base.
