Mayor Johnson: Chicago ‘Police Dept. Will Not Ever Cooperate with ICE’

By Nancy Thorner -

On June 4, 2020 Nancy Pelosi wrote a letter to President Trump wanting explanation of National Guard Troops in the Capitol.  Excerpt follows:

“We are concerned about the increased militarization and lack of clarity that may increase chaos.  I am writing to request a full list of the agencies involved and clarifications of the roles and responsibilities of the troops and federal law enforcement resources operating in the city. Congress and the American people need to know who is in charge, what is the chain of command, what is the mission, and by what authority is the National Guard from other states operating in the capital.”

Timeline of National Guard Deployment to Capitol

"It was on August 1 st, 2021 that President Trump deployed federal forces in D.C. There is no statehood separating D.C. from his power. As a territory and not a state, President Trump doesn't have to consult and communicate with certain local officials."

"According to the Dept of Defense, on January 3, 2021 acting Defense Secretary Chris Miller & Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, met with President Trump and he agreed to activate the D.C. Natl Guard to support D.C. police (not Capitol Police) with crowd and traffic control before the 'riot'."

Defense Officials Confirm Trump Is Still Commander in Chief…

On January 10, 2021, Pentagon officials proclaimed that President Trump is still the Commander-In-Chief, despite efforts from members in Congress to have him impeached before his term ends on January 20, 2020.

Washington, D.C. under permanent occupation?

*Excerpted and adapted from FrontPage Daniel Greenfield’s report of  March 15, 2021:  Washington Falls Under Permanent Military:

"They will not allow Nancy Pelosi’s partisan efforts to interfere with their duty.  Dept of Defense officials said: “Mr. Trump is still the Commander in Chief; unless he is removed, the military is bound to follow his lawful orders. While military officials can refuse to carry out orders they view as illegal or slow the process by sending those orders for careful legal review, they cannot remove the President from the chain of command. That would amount to a military coup.”

"While Trump was still Commander in Chief, on January 21, 2021 twenty-five thousand National Guard Members were deployed to Washington D.C. [for the stated reason] to protect Biden’s inauguration from a threat [that never existed]. Even though nothing had happened since the Capitol Riot and even though the 7,000 troops were already in the city, who had been authorized to use lethal force, were far more than the 2,500 troops fighting in Afghanistan."

“When are the troops leaving? Never, if the Democrats have their way."

“Currently D.C. is filled with armed checkpoints. Razor wire topped 9 ft tall barriers that cut off the Mall as the city has turned into Baghdad. There was no reason to deploy 25,000 troops in a government city that already had over 5,000 police officers.”

“So what's the reason for their presence? To this day what the troops duties were/are haven’t been fully explained. Based on a DHS bulletin from Secretary of the Army John Whitley claiming upcoming events, which he admitted, “we don't know what they are.” As none of the previous excuses, scares and pretexts for the D.C. occupation happened.”

“The D.C. military occupation is no longer a temporary response to an emergency. Instead it’s becoming a permanent state of emergency with a military occupation that can be deployed even in the absence of presidential authority.”  End of *Excerpts from FrontPage, Daniel Greenfield report.

Scaling back the fence?

A March 15 report by Ally Schweitzer for WAMU news indicated that the Fence Around U.S. Capitol Will Be Scaled Back Starting This Week.  A 3-plus miles fence now surrounds the Capitol, congressional office buildings and other parts of downtown D.C.

"The forbidding fencing that has surrounded the U.S. Capitol since Jan. 6  is expected to shrink in size starting this week, according to an internal email sent by the House Sergeant at Arms to members of Congress.”

“The Architect of the Capitol and U.S. Capitol Police plan to begin dismantling the fencing’s outer perimeter in the coming days, reopening Independence and Constitution avenues to traffic, the email says. Officials also expect to reduce the National Guard presence at the Capitol earlier than planned, according to the message.”

“Police are considering replacing some of the fence with “bike racks positioned in double rows outside some areas” to “create a barrier between police and potential threats, giving officers more time to react effectively.”

“CNN reported, Capitol Police continue to believe the building could face a threat from violent extremists, though the police force says it’s not aware of any known, credible threats at this time.”

Good news and bad news

The Good News:  Barbed wire fencing around the US Capitol to be scaled back.  Independence & Constitution Aves. will be reopened over the next 2 weeks.

The Bad news: There will still be a fence closing off the Capitol grounds for some time to come.

Questions remains

Why is the fence still needed to close off the Capitol grounds?

What are Congress members afraid of?

President Trump ordered troops there, but who's now in control?

Democrats members seem determined to portray Trump supporters as insurrectionists.
