More than 500 law-abiding citizens and Second Amendment advocates gathered in Springfield on April 15 for the Illinois State Rifle Association’s annual Illinois Gun Owner Lobby Day (IGOLD), delivering a strong and visible message to lawmakers just steps from the State Capitol.
The event, held at the Bank of Springfield Center, brought together gun owners from across the state to stand in defense of their constitutional rights amid continued pressure from Democrat-led policies in Illinois.
Hosted by the Illinois State Rifle Association, IGOLD once again proved to be one of the largest and most impactful pro-Second Amendment gatherings in the state. Attendees filled the venue to hear from a lineup of speakers who addressed the growing concerns among gun owners over government overreach and the erosion of their rights.
Among the featured speakers were attorneys Dave McDermott and Irena Stefanovski of the McDermott Law Group. The legal team shared firsthand accounts of representing clients who were wrongfully targeted under Illinois’ complex and often confusing gun laws.

McDermott and Stefanovski warned that many prosecuting attorneys lack a basic understanding of firearm laws, leading to unjust prosecutions against otherwise law-abiding citizens. Their remarks drew strong reactions from the crowd, reinforcing concerns that the legal system is increasingly being used against responsible gun owners rather than criminals.
Newsmax columnist and Illinois Review co-owner Mark Vargas also addressed the crowd. Vargas, who serves as a Republican National Committee (RNC) media surrogate, spoke about the broader political landscape and the need for accountability in Springfield. He highlighted ongoing concerns about waste, fraud, and abuse in state government, connecting those issues to a lack of trust in leadership when it comes to protecting constitutional rights.
The crowd also heard from Darren Bailey, the Republican nominee for governor, who delivered a forceful defense of the Second Amendment. Bailey, joined by his running mate Aaron Del Mar, energized attendees with a call to action ahead of the November election.

Bailey pledged to represent the millions of law-abiding gun owners across Illinois if elected, promising to roll back unconstitutional restrictions and restore respect for the rights of responsible citizens. His message was clear: the path to protecting the Second Amendment runs through the ballot box.
Following the indoor program, attendees marched from the Bank of Springfield Center to the Illinois State Capitol in a highly visible show of unity. The crowd, chanting and cheering, made its presence known throughout downtown Springfield, drawing attention from lawmakers and the public alike.
The demonstration created a noticeable stir in the Capitol area, serving as a reminder that gun owners remain a powerful and engaged constituency in Illinois politics.
For many in attendance, IGOLD 2026 was not just a rally – it was a declaration. A declaration that despite increasing pressure from Democrat leadership in Springfield, law-abiding citizens will continue to stand up, speak out, and fight to protect their rights.
As the legislative battles continue and the November election approaches, events like IGOLD underscore a growing movement of Illinois residents determined to hold their leaders accountable and defend the Second Amendment for future generations.
